My Story

I've been a practicing social worker for 15 years after receiving my Master of Social Welfare from University of California, Berkeley, in 2007. I have experience in a variety of practice settings and specialties including child welfare, healthcare, rural & urban social work, inpatient and outpatient treatment, dual diagnoses (mental/behavioral health & substance use disorders), LGBTQIA, and community mental health. I've been fully licensed and practicing in Austin, Texas since 2014 and Washington, DC since 2021.

My interest in clinical social work is rooted in my own experiences with anxiety and depression. A lifelong sufferer of generalized anxiety and associated depressive episodes, I found my professional calling as a clinical social worker to increase access to behavioral health services and share my knowledge, both personally and professionally, to help others. I'm grateful for all the people I get to help and who are, in turn, my best teachers.

Be. Here. Now.

That’s been my personal mantra over the last few years and one of the hardest things I’ve ever tried to do. It is Here & NOW, however, where we can make changes and appreciate the fullness of our experiences. Unfortunately, that means having feelings we don’t like, which can be uncomfortable. But I believe it is only through experiencing these feelings we can learn to be psychologically flexible and grow as individuals.

My ultimate goal is to help reduce your suffering and improve the quality of your life, no matter what you’re going through. I want to provide a safe space where you can focus on what’s most important to you. I know your life can change Here & NOW if you practice the skills you learn in our time together because I’ve done it myself. Your resilience & internal strength will help make it possible.

Using a combination of techniques rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Empowerment Theory, over the course of up to 12 sessions per goal, you’ll learn how to live in the Here & NOW and practice behavioral skills focused on your values. Change is hard but it’s only through being present for ourselves that we can find meaning in our struggles and lead a values-driven life.

Attendance Policy

Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes in length. If you arrive late, your session will be shortened by the amount of time that you are late. In the event that you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, you are required to provide a minimum 24-hour advanced notification. I understand that emergencies happen that may prevent you from keeping an appointment or giving the required notice. However, due to the highly personalized nature of our work and out of respect for each other’s time, a cancellation/no show policy is in place.

After the first no show or late cancellation, failure to give 24-hour notice will result in a cancellation fee of $50.
